About the Nereda® WWTP Inverurie, Scotland, UK
Scottish Water was seeking a solution for wastewater treatment at its Inverurie WwTWs to increase the plant’s capacity and improve effluent quality. The company wanted to upgrade its current works while increasing efficiency and reducing operating costs.
Nereda was selected as an efficient and cost-effective means to upgrade the works. The delivery partner is ESD, a joint venture between Galliford Try, MWH Treatment and Black & Veatch. Improvements include a new inlet works, improved storm water treatment, a buffer tank and three 2,000m3 Nereda reactors, with the capacity to treat an average flow of 10,871m3 per day with a peak flow of 544m3 /h. A modular common wall construction design using DFMA has maximised efficiency of the installation. EPS, Royal HaskoningDHV’s Nereda Licensee in Ireland is providing design and delivery of specialist Nereda components under subcontract to ESD.
The Nereda installation at Inverurie is due to be completed in early 2019. The development of the modular construction has minimised the site installation period. As well as providing additional capacity for future growth at the plant, Nereda has also enabled bio phosphorus removal without the use of chemicals to be achieved, which will greatly improve the quality of the nearby rivers Don and Urie.
