About the Nereda WWTP Barston, UK
Barston Sewage Treatment Works required complete new works to significantly reduce the amount of phosphorus and ammonia discharges into the watercourse by improving the effluent produced so as to comply with some of the tightest effluent consent requirements in the UK.
New inlet works have been designed and the construction of three new Nereda reactors, each with a volume of 2,900m3. Barston is a cost effective, compact solution for Severn Trent Water, with excellent environmental benefits.
Manjit Chadha, Severn Trent programme manager, said: “We’re investing £17 million in our site at Barston which will make it one of the most technologically advanced sewage treatment works in the country.”
He continued, “This new technology will help us to improve the quality of effluent we put back into water courses and ultimately improve the environment.”
