About the Nereda® WWTP Weert

The challenge

In order to comply with the much more stringent regulations for effluent water quality (KRW) in 2021, the old WWTP at Weert had to be replaced. The Water Authority of Limburg (WBL) selected Nereda as their technology of choice in accordance with their own Verdygo® concept.

The solution

The Verdygo concept is a sustainable approach with a modular construction technique. By using modules built above ground, components can be added or removed, making it a flexible construction for future changes. After successful implementation at Simpelveld in 2015, Weert is the second Nereda in Limburg using the Verdygo® concept. Nereda was chosen due to its high effluent quality, small footprint, and low energy requirements.

The outcome

The WWTP in Weert will treat the wastewater of 140,000 people (74,101 p.e. after primary settling) and live up to the new strict effluent requirements. Start-up of the plant and 3 years of operational support are included in our scope. Because of the small footprint Nereda requires, the client was able to build the new plant next to the existing plant on the existing grounds. When the Nereda plant went operational in 2020, the existing plant was demolished. In order to make the plant in Weert even more sustainable, a new combined heat and power installation was made which can turn the produced biogas into electricity and heat.
