We are looking for an experienced Project Director to support our Maritime Advice Group in the delivery of large capital Marine Projects both in the UK and overseas.    The role will be predominantly supporting one of our Maritime design teams located in Haywards Heath, however it will also require integration into the wider team of 600 marine professionals worldwide. 

The Haywards Heath team specialise, among other things, in the design and delivery of all manner of shipyard projects and are considered world leaders in this field.  We are looking for someone with a broad range of maritime experience to help develop and guide the team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist and guide the Project Managers with commercial and technical management of projects with the objective that projects show a result equal to or better than that originally budgeted.
  • Proactive management and advice on project steering and delivery.
  • Assist the Project Manager to plan and resource all required activities to achieve project delivery to programme and within budget. 
  • Assist the Project Manager/Team Leaders to co-ordinate the activities of all project team members to meet milestones and deadlines; planning and managing resources both internally and those of subconsultants.
  • Assist Project Managers with project set up – commercially, technically, and in compliance with QHSE.Attend and take a proactive role in progress meetings, at start up, 20%, 80% and final review stages at the very least.
  • Assist with writing proposals and preparing fee bids.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients.
  • Manage regular project communications with clients at a high level in the client organisation at the early stage/set up and throughout the project providing a high level of client care.
  • Provide support to the project team as required to ensure high standards of delivery.
  • Providing sound management judgement and advice.
  • Assist and guide Project Managers to monitor progress against plan and take appropriate action to ensure adherence to the plan.
  • Oversee the implementation and adherence to QHSE procedures.
  • Transfer knowledge and experience of managing complex projects to project managers.
  • Timely upward communication and intervention of any project slippage.
  • Work with other Project Directors to set standards and raise competence in project management within the Business Line and wider group.
  • Carry out duties which your Line Manager may reasonably request within the broad parameters of your role.

Skills and experience

  • Degree level qualification in numerate subject
  • Track record of management of major maritime projects
  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal)
  • Professional experience in delivery of maritime engineering projects
  • Experience in commercial aspects of project delivery
  • Ability to provide appropriate level of leadership and support without undermining responsibility of Project Manager
  • Excellent team player to contribute to a dynamic group
  • Experience in project systems and processes
  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal)
  • Willingness to travel within home country and overseas
  • Extensive experience in the Maritime Sector
