The Job

A Principal Transport Planner manages and produce technical studies within the Transport Planning function. The role demands a proactive approach in a team environment and offers substantial opportunity for career progression within the company. 

Principal Transport Planners are expected to be technically competent in analysing all types of transport projects and be able to manage people and projects.  In particular Principal Transport Planners are expected to be able to manage project teams and undertake the day to day Client liaison and management on projects. Principal Transport Planners will be expected to be able to identify business opportunities and to communicate these to and discuss these with the team as well as assist in realising these. Principal TPs will contribute towards the technical excellence of the team and can expect considerable experience on a variety of interesting and challenging projects.

Key requirements of the role - what your job will consist of

  •  Management and production of technical studies
  • Management and production of Transport Assessments
  • Management and production of Travel Plans, Delivery and Service Plans, Construction Logistics Plans
  • Managing other transport projects as these arise and ensuring outputs are delivered on time and within agreed budget
  • Expert knowledge of junction modelling programs, such as ARCADY, PICADY, LINSIG
  • Knowledge of the TRICS database
  • Experience in interrogating CENSUS data on matters relating to transport
  • Developing innovative transport solutions to serve and benefit Clients.
  • Inspiring junior staff to develop innovative transport solutions to serve and benefit Clients
  • Proactively contributing to the technical development of the transport function in the UK
  • Providing technical support and advice within Transport UK in order to:
  • Develop the technical skills of junior staff; and
  • Ensure consistency in technical quality from junior staff.
  • Commercial and technical management of projects ensuring that projects are managed effectively within budgetary constraints
  • The day-to-day management of the junior members of the transport planning function in the UK
  • The day-to-day management of other disciplines within the Royal HaskoningDHV group working on projects
  • Identification of business opportunities
  • Preparation of fee proposals

You may also be required to carry out any duties which your line manager may reasonably request within the broad parameters of your role.

BIM
As Royal HaskoningDHV operate projects with a BIM approach, you are expected to be aware of the UK BIM framework (previously known as BIM Level 2), your role within it and ideally have practical experience.  If this is not the case, you will be expected to undertake the relevant training courses via our Digital Academy within your first 3 months of employment should you be successful.
