As Business Unit Director of the Industry and Smart Asset Management business unit at Royal HaskoningDHV South Africa, I’m excited (and sometimes a bit frightened) about the advances and prospects of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Excited because, with existing and emerging technologies, anything we can imagine, we can achieve. Frightened because acting for a better future, leaving a legacy, and building the capacity and ability to solve service delivery problems means we have to overcome challenges like red tape, procurement bottlenecks, corruption, self-interest, and politics.
It means we have to act boldly to “imagineer” a better society for future generations. We have to collaborate and co-create, especially when tackling new or challenging problems. And we have to bring key public and private stakeholders together to implement these solutions for maximum positive impact.
A civil engineer by profession and a philanthropist at heart, I believe we have to move quickly to come up with creative solutions that serve diverse populations. The entrepreneur in me believes that we need to set goals and take strategic, dynamic action to get things done and to get results.
