FloodSmart Parramatta launched to reduce the impact of flooding in the city

FloodSmart Parramatta was launched on August 9. It incorporates Royal HaskoningDHV’s Flash® Flood Service, which uses real-time and forecast weather data to predict flooding and provide early warnings to government, local residents and businesses. Operating on the cloud-based Lizard platform and using real-time and forecast weather data to inform 3Di modelling, Flash® can predict flooding and provide early warning to government, local residents and businesses directly to their computers, Tablets or smart phones.

Residents can access information about the potential impact of flood to their property and learn how to prepare for and potentially avoid major impact from flooding on the City’s FloodSmart webpages.

Lord Mayor of the City of Parramatta, Councillor Andrew Wilson, said: “FloodSmart is an innovative tool which will help empower our community to become more resilient, and forms part of our commitment to using smart solutions to help solve the challenges that river cities such as Parramatta face.”

Ben Patterson, Director Advisory Group: Rivers, Deltas & Coasts Australia at Royal HaskoningDHV said: “Our Flash® tool is proven to be highly accurate in predicting flooding via numerous applications worldwide. By warning local people in advance, they can take steps to protect their families and their property. They simply sign up for alerts via the city council’s website.”
