In October 2021 Royal HaskoningDHV will celebrate its 140th birthday. To mark this milestone, we have commissioned a series of striking stories highlighting key moments in the firm’s history. We are proud of our heritage and this is a great opportunity to share our history with a wider audience.

From January to October 2021, we will publish a new story each month. The last of these will coincide with the start of the birthday celebrations we have planned for our employees and relations.

Concept and background

Royal HaskoningDHV’s biography contains an inexhaustible supply of tales covering adventures both large and small. These adventures started in 1881 with the young and ambitious engineers Johan van Hasselt and Jacobus de Koning setting up their new agency, continued with the founding of the Vereenigde ingenieursbureaux voor bouw- en waterbouwkunde (United Engineering Offices for Construction and Hydraulic Engineering) by Heederik, Dwars, Groothoff en Verhey in 1917 and remain part of our DNA today. Our history is a journey from a small group of passionate people to the 6,000 employee-strong firm we are today. Now we are an international community focused on enhancing society together with the same perseverance and ingenuity as our founding fathers displayed.
